Parasaurolophus pronounced peh·ruh·saw·raa·luh·fuhs was a medium sized, therepodial, herbivorous dinosaur that lived in the late Cretaceous Period, about 65 million years ago. The Parasaurolophus has been found in the U.S states of Utah and New Mexico. The name Parasaurolophus means near crested lizard.
The Parasaurolophus weighed around 2.7 tons, was around 31 ft long, and around 15 ft tall. It is in the middle of the size spectrum for its time period. A dinosaur that are related to the Parasaurolophus is the charonosaurus. Only 3 Parasaurolophus skeletons have been found.
The Parasaurolophus mostly eats pine needles, leaves, and twigs. The Parasaurolophus teeth were perfectly made to eat plants.
Its crest probably was used as a resonating chamber that makes long low pitched sounds. The Parasaurolophus is guessed to be warm blooded. The Parasaurolophus has a top speed of 25 mph. The Parasaurolophus is said to not have feathers unlike other dinosaurs.
